Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you charge?
Price of quilting will depend on the size of the quilt. Prices are listed by square inch. To find the square inches of your quilt, measure the length and the width of the quilt. Multiply the length times to width. If your quilt top is 60x80, then there are 4800 square inches. Multiply 4800 by the price of the design you like. If it is $0.0175/sq in, the cost would be $84.00. Batting is priced separately.

Additional costs: Seam backing - $5-$15 depends on how many seams I have to make and if the fabric is cotton or minky.
Thread – all thread is included in the square inch price. There is no additional thread charges.
Batting – charged separately
Quilt top repairs – I will only repair your quilt top if I see it before it is loaded for quilting. I cannot remove the top and repair it once the machine has started stitching. Price depends on repair.

Trimming batting and backing after quilting is complete – FREE. Any fabric I trim off your backing, I put into a bag and return to you.
Purchase a design not in my library - $5. I’m happy to buy any design you love and would like me to stitch on your quilt. Please be aware that new designs have not been tested by me. I will do everything I can to make your quilt look beautiful, but I cannot know and anticipate problems with a design I have never stitched before.
Do I have to iron?
In quilting, we call it pressing with a hot iron since you are pressing the seams, either to one side or open. Please press your quilt top when you are all finished. The flatter the fabric is, the easier my machine glides over it. If you don’t want to press it, I charge $20 per quilt top. Please press the seams in your backing fabric as well. Don’t stress too much about wrinkled fabric. The fabric is pulled somewhat taught on the machine. This will usually get out most wrinkles in fabric.
How big should my backing be?
Please make sure your backing fabric is at least three inches (four is better) bigger on each side of the quilt top. If your top is 60x80, your backing fabric needs to be at least 66x86 or larger. If it is not, I will work with it, but there will be a fee for me to piece scraps all around to be able to load it onto my machine. Fee will depend on how much work I have to do to make it fit. Seams on the backing have to be loaded horizontally. If you have a seam running vertical on your backing, we will need to choose a design that looks the same vertical and horizontal. Some designs will not work for your quilt. So, if your quilt is 60 x 80, you should cut two pieces of fabric 66-68 inches and then sew them together to get a backing fabric that is 66x86. The best backing is 108 inch wide fabric with no seams. A sheet also works really well, but all the seams must be cut off.
Do you have batting?
My machine will stitch any kind of batting. It does not care. Some kinds of batting are easier to work with than others. I carry bulk rolls of two different kinds of batting. I am happy to sell you a piece that is cut to the size you need. I carry Pellon 100% polyester low loft batting. This is a great inexpensive option that holds heat in and makes for a lightweight quilt. Current pricing is $4/yard. I carry Pellon 80/20 cotton/polyester low loft batting. This is a dense breathable batting. It creates beautiful texture when quilted and has little shrinkage. Current pricing is $6.50/yard.
Will you bind my quilt?
Yes! This is a skill I have done so much that I am confident I can make perfectly mitered corners. I do not offer hand binding. If you provide the uncut fabric, cost of binding is $0.18 per linear inch and will be attached to both sides by machine. If your quilt top is 60x80, the price would be $50.40. If you would like to provide the binding fabric cut, sewn, and pressed, the cost is $0.12 per linear inch to attach it to both sides by machine. If you would like me to sew to the binding to one side only, the cost is $0.06 per linear inch.
Can you quilt my tshirt quilt?
Yes! I have done many tshirt quilts. But there are some limitations. I cannot stitch through embroidered patches (like from hats or letter jackets). If you include those, I will have to hand guide around them. This costs $0.03 per square inch. I cannot stitch through thick interfacing. Please use only featherweight interfacing on your tshirts. I usually stitch through the vinyl logos and designs on the tshirts. If you do not want this to happen, I will have to hand guide around them. This costs $0.03 per square inch. I do not have good results quilting sweatshirts. I can do it, but they usually do not lie flat while quilting. This can create small puckers.
Can you do one design in the center and a different design around the edges?
Any variation of this question, the answer is no. I only offer edge to edge digital quilting. This means that the same design is repeated over and over until the whole quilt is covered. I have many longarm friends, and I would be happy to recommend you to some wonderful custom quilters.
I am not a professional quilter. Please don't look at all my errors!
I get this comment a lot! I feel like I have seen most every error or funny seam that there is. I have made all these same mistakes myself. But I have met very few quilts that I couldn’t quilt. If I can’t quilt it, it is usually due to the kind of fabric you used and not to how well you sewed the fabrics together. I can’t guarantee that every quilt will come out perfectly flat and look professional because fabric will shift! But I can guarantee that I will treat every quilt with the same care I do my own quilts. I know the time and money invested in each fabric masterpiece and I want them to all come out beautiful. I am a perfectionist when it comes to my work, and I will do everything I can to make your quilt be the best it can. Please remember, fabric will always shift. The trick is getting the fabric to shift the way that I want it to!
